Carcinogenesis is retracting this paper, along with its subsequent corrigendum (Po-Chen Chu et al. Carcinogenesis (2017) 38, 105–106 https://doi.org/10.1093/carcin/bgw117) following an institutional investigation conducted by The Ohio State University in response to concerns related to possible image manipulation.

Following the institution’s review, The Ohio State University determined that the images for Figure 1A and 8A were intentionally falsified by Dr. Ching-Shih Chen. Given the presence of falsified data in these figures, the university has requested that the publications be retracted.

Dr Chen formally consented to this retraction during the institutional investigation and the Journal has more recently received agreement for the retraction from Drs Kulp and Chu. The Journal understands that all authors were contacted during the institutional investigation.
