I am honored to serve as the new Editor-in-Chief of Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology (MEAJO), and it is my privilege to jot down few lines for the first issue of 2019. I am grateful to the Executive Board of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology for entrusting and giving me the opportunity to lead this flourishing ophthalmic journal.
The credit of success of MEAJO is due to the relentless efforts of my predecessors, especially Dr. Deepak Edward, and the internationally diverse editorial and advisory team, associate editors, section editors, reviewers, contributors, and the supporting staff. I hope to maintain the high standards set out by the former chief. As online scientific publication has grown exponentially in recent years, we do anticipate challenges. However, the editorial team is committed to serve the ophthalmic community better by providing readers with high-quality research that goes through stringent peer review and responds to authors' concern in a timely fashion. One of our priorities would be on reducing article processing time and improving the visibility of published articles. I request authors to kindly bear with us and give us some time to clear the pending submissions.
As a new editor, I welcome any suggestions from the authors, reviewers, and readers for the betterment of the journal.
