Errors in Multiple Sections

PMCID: PMC6515575  PMID: 30801622

The Original Investigation, “Outcomes of Hypothermia in Addition to Decompressive Hemicraniectomy in Treatment of Malignant Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial,”1 published online January 18, 2019, contained several errors. In the byline, an additional degree, MSc, was added after the name of Eric Jüttler, MD. In the Results section, the phrase “enrolled in the trial between August 2011 and September 2016” has been edited to end with “September 2015”; enrollment ended in that month, although data collection continued for an additional year. In addition, the sentence “Cardiovascular and nervous system SAEs are listed in the eTable in Supplement 1” was deleted because the accompanying eTable is not presented in the Supplement, and the phrase “control group, 9 of 25 patients [83%]” in the Results subsection called “Early Mortality and Secondary Clinical End Points” was corrected to “19 of 23 patients [83%].” Finally, erroneous hazard ratio (HR) values 1.40 and 2.60 in the sentence “Patients in the hypothermia group had a significantly higher risk for requiring mechanical ventilation than those in the control group (…HR, 1.40 [95% CI, 1.12-1.78]; P = .003) and a significantly higher risk of receiving osmotherapy (…HR, 2.60 [95% CI, 1.43-4.58]; P = .001)” were corrected to 1.42 and 2.56, respectively. In Table 1, the row header “Modified Rankin scale score on admission” was modified to “Preexisting modified Rankin scale score on admission.” In Table 2, the number of patients with SAE at 12 months was edited from 14/23 (61%) to 10/23 (43%). In Figure 1, the number 154 (for patients who did not fulfill inclusion criteria) was corrected to 199. In Figure 3, the x-axis label was corrected from “Patients, %” to “Patient Groups,” and the caption was updated to correct the phrases “…1 (4%) had a score of 54” to “…1 (4%) had a score of 5” and “…3 (13%) had a score of 5” to “…3 (13%) had a score of 6.”
