Within nine parts, 41 chapters and over 750 pages, this blue thyroid book brings all thyroid old and new data, with the high professional support of world renowned experts. The editors are internationally acknowledged leaders in the field of thyroid disorders and have grouped an outstanding team of authors, highly expert in their respective areas, who presented their chapters in a crystal clear style. From anatomy and physiology, to epidemiology and environmental oligoelements involved, as iodine and selenium are, the book is an up-to-date and comprehensive guide to all the common but also to rare thyroid disorders. The fundamentals of thyroid hormone function and regulation in health and disease are excellently covered. An important part is dedicated to thyroid lab work, hormones and molecular markers as well as thyroid imaging, useful for internists, endocrinologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and endocrine surgeons. If the primary focus of the reader would be on the clinical approach to thyroid disease, one would find detailed coverage of both initial diagnosis and management and the role of imaging as well as pathology. Because most endocrine diseases are chronic and lifelong, special emphasis is placed on long-term management and the common pitfalls that may be encountered by the clinician. A multidisciplinary approach is envisaged in chapters approaching heart and amiodarone induced thyroid disorders, emergency conditions as thyroid storm or myxedema coma, as well as thyroid cancer in differentiated follicular form or medullary thyroid cancer. In a fast and dynamic progress of translational thyroidology, all genetic aspects as well as their therapeutic indications are well presented. The numerous isotope scan and ultrasonographic images ensure that the book will serve as a valuable reference atlas to which the physician will return again and again.

In summary, the book brings together the diagnostic and clinical expertise of an outstanding team of practicing thyroidologists. It is a must for all professionals involved in care of patients with thyroid disorders, the daily bread of most endocrinologists but not limited to them.
