We, the editors of Heliyon, have been informed by the corresponding author of this paper, Dr. Daniela M. Pampanin, that upon reanalysis of the data in Figures 4 and 5 the conclusive identification of a low-abundance albumin-like protein in the plasma of Atlantic cod by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry is no longer supported. The in silico analysis predicting the albumin-like protein remains correct, as does the suggestion that the protein would not be a suitable biomarker. The editors would like to thank the concerned reader whose comment prompted the reanalysis and the author for stepping forward.
