The fourth edition of “Practical Endocrinology and Diabetes in Children” is a useful pediatric clinical handbook. This practical approach has a great impact on medical practice, including a new chapter about genetics, emphasizing the role of modern medical practice. The book summarizes updated aspects of various disorders in the field of endocrinology and diabetes pediatric population. The book is written in clear terms and offers a user-friendly format that is designed to be concise, yet comprehensive. The international panel of expert contributors explores the range of endocrine disorders in children including growth, thyroid, adrenal and problems related to puberty. For each chapter general information is presented such as epidemiology of the illness or clinical presentation, but more important are the aspects regarding the management and treatment of diseases, psychological effects, future developments, controversial points and potential pitfalls. Its educational purpose is well defined by the clinical cases presented very interactive so they can be useful for those who are studying for postgraduate examinations. Another particularity is that, at the end of each chapter, there is a section with information helpful for patients and parents. All the data are well structured, easy to read whereas they are presented in a friendly way using representative photos, useful diagrams and tables. Furthermore, the information is accurate and explicit references, according to North American and global guidelines, present tips and ideas for avoiding errors. Written for the practicing pediatrician, “Practical Endocrinology and Diabetes in Children” bridges the gap between the large, detailed endocrine reference book and a short review of aspects of endocrinology.

In conclusion, the book is aimed not only at primary or specialist pediatricians, but also at endocrinologists and diabetologists, nurses working in pediatric endocrinology wards, diabetic nurse specialists, medical specialists in training and students as a way to improve their knowledge and clinical skills. Definitely, the fourth edition of “Practical Endocrinology and Diabetes in Children” is worth reading, not only for the good presentation of the data, but also for their precision.
