In the article “The Diversity of Ganglion Cells in a Mammalian Retina,” by Rebecca L. Rockhill, Frank J. Daly, Margaret A. MacNeil, Solange P. Brown, and Richard H. Masland, which appeared on pages 3831-3843 of the May 1, 2002 issue, an incorrect version of Table 1 was inadvertently published. A coverage factor of 1.4 for retinal ganglion cells was assumed, rather than 1.8 as stated in the text. This slightly changes the values for the predicted density of retinal ganglion cells. None of the conclusions of the paper are affected. A revised version of the table is printed here.

Table 1.

Cell numbers as predicted from dendritic field size and an assumed coverage factor of 1.8 (see Results)

Type

Dendritic field diameter (μm)

Dendritic field area (μm2)

Predicted number (cells/mm2)
G1 180 25434 71
G2 224 39388 46
G3 228 40807 44
G4 230 41527 43
G4 248 48281 37
G5 299 70180 26
G6 324 82406 22
G7 379 112758 64 (16 × 4)
G8 413 133897 13
G9 482 182374 10
G10 708 393492 15 (5 × 3)
G11 874 599643 3
G11 874 599643 3
Total

397

In addition, on page 3840, left column, line 33 of the text, the predicted total should be 397 cells/mm2, not 307 cells/mm2.
