Reason for withdrawal from publication
The review has been withdrawn because it is out of date. It is being updated by two new reviews: 'Fetal and umbilical Doppler ultrasound in high‐risk pregnancy', first published in The Cochrane Library 2010, Issue 1; and 'Maternal and utero‐placental Doppler ultrasound for improving pregnancy outcome', currently in preparation.
The editorial group responsible for this previously published document have withdrawn it from publication.

Summary
Abstract: The effect on perinatal mortality is referred to in a way that is more positive than merited by the current data.
Discussion: The evidence in this review has become, over time, less convincing in terms of a reduction in perinatal mortality. One possible explanation for this which should be discussed is publication bias. There is an excess of small positive trials, suggesting small negative trials may be missing.
