(a, b) Scores on the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) can range from 1 (“much better”) to 5 (“much worse”) as shown in panel a but caregivers rejected the notion of improvement to the point of incorrectly interpreting values between 1 and 3 as signaling the beginning of inevitable decline. The truncated version shown in panel b was preferable and interpreted correctly despite the nonideal 3–5 scaling.
