This article was originally published online on 6 January 2019 with several incorrect sentences. The sentence immediately below Eq. (2.10b) should read, “Since we are dealing with an equilibrium trajectory, the probability of finding the trajectory at point x is given by the Boltzmann distribution, exp(−βU(x))/Z, where Z=expβUxdx with β = 1/(kBT), where kB and T denote the Boltzmann constant and the absolute temperature.”

The last sentence of Sec. II B [in the second and third lines after Eq. (2.11)] should read, “Thus, the equilibrium population of state I is the Boltzmann average of the probability φi(x), πI = φi.”

AIP Publishing apologizes for these errors. All online versions of the article were corrected on 11 February 2019; the article is correct as it appears in the printed version of the journal.
