Pharmacists and hypertension

I was reading with great interest the peer-reviewed, published research article in the July/August CPJ titled “Pharmacist prescribing and care improves cardiovascular risk, but is it cost-effective? A cost-effectiveness analysis of the RxEACH study.”1 The results are fantastic!

Pharmacists can play such an important role in health care by screening patients for hypertension and cardiovascular risk. This research shows that if pharmacists would just take care of the patient on the other side of the counter, they could positively affect outcomes, satisfy our own financial requirements and save payers’ money at the same time. ■
