Abstract
The health and education departments of government share a responsibility for promoting the health of children through policies in the school setting. These policies can be enhanced through the involvement of such stakeholders as school personnel, students, parents or caregivers, health professionals, the non-profit sector and industry. Although there is little evidence-based literature on the roles of stakeholders in school policy development and implementation, stakeholder involvement appears to be critical throughout the policy process. This article discusses stakeholder involvement in the development and implementation of school policies that promote and support healthy eating and physical activity. Canadian examples illustrate stakeholder engagement in this context.

Résumé
Les ministères de la Santé et de l’Éducation ont la responsabilité partagée de promouvoir la santé des enfants au moyen de politiques en milieu scolaire. Ces politiques peuvent être renforcées par la participation d’intervenants comme des membres du personnel de l’école, des élèves, des parents ou des gardiens, des professionnels de la santé, le secteur à but non lucratif et l’industrie. Bien qu’il existe peu de documents fondés sur des données probantes relativement au rôle des intervenants dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de politiques scolaires, la participation d’intervenants semble essentielle au processus d’élaboration de politiques. Le présent article traite de la participation d’intervenants dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de politiques scolaires qui favorisent et appuient une saine alimentation et l’activité physique. Des exemples canadiens illustrent l’engagement des intervenants dans ce contexte.
