The Plant Cell welcomes 12 new Assistant Features Editors (AFEs) for 2020; they join six continuing AFEs who started in 2019. We thank all of the original AFEs who stepped down from the editorial board in 2018 or 2019, who helped us to establish the program and provided valuable input and ideas for making improvements. We initiated the AFE program under the guidance of then Editor-in-Chief Sabeeha Merchant in 2017, to highlight more of the research published in the journal and to give experience in writing and learning about the work of the editorial board to the AFEs. We continue to look for ways to expand the program to give a meaningful experience to the AFEs, to include mentoring, networking, and peer review training. In addition, we thank our continuing team of Chinese-language AFEs, who contribute translations of research article summaries for The Plant Cell WeChat account. We look forward to working with this terrific group of early career researchers!
