Encapsulation strategies of therapeutic cargoes in ferritin molecules. Human ferritin can be typically disassembled at very acidic pH values (pH 2) and reassembled in the presence of the given cargo, restoring neutral pH. Conversely, A. fulgidus ferritin is disassembled/reassembled at neural pH, just varying the concentration of divalent cations (i.e., MgCl2).
