Dr. Jocelyne Tessier

Dr. Jocelyne Tessier passed away on January 12, 2020 at the age of 61. She was a well-known and respected Canadian urologist. A graduate of the Université de Montréal medical school in 1982, Dr. Tessier went on to complete her urology training at the same institution and achieved urology specialty certification (CMQ and RCPSC) in 1987. This was a time when there were few women who had chosen to enter urology in Canada, so in that respect, she was a pioneer. She was primarily based at the Maisonneuve-Rosement hospital in Montreal as an attending urologist from 1988–2011. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Tessier undertook further studies in bioethics. She also served on the examination board for urology at the Royal College, where she was known as a formidable examiner, but one with a quick smile and a great sense of humor. She was an active CUA member from 1988–2020, a member-at-large for Quebec from 1999–2001, and on the CUA guidelines committee from 1999–2001. Dr. Tessier stepped back from her clinical practice in 2011 to bring her talents to the CMPA, where she served as a medical officer until the time of her death. She will be remembered and missed by her many colleagues and friends.

Dr. Datta G. Wagle

Dr. Datta Wagle, a former AUA president, passed away on January 24, 2020 at the age of 83. Dr. Wagle attended medical school at Bombay University and became part of the first group of physicians from India who went to the U.S. for post-graduate training in 1960. He completed his urology training at Roswell Park Memorial Institute and the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Wagle contributed greatly to the urology community as a whole and to the AUA in particular, where he served in several positions: AUA president, on the board of directors, chair of the AUA’s compensation committee, and as a member of many other AUA committees. He was also a past president of the Northeastern Section of the AUA, the New York State Urological Society, the Buffalo Urological Society, and the American Association of Clinical Urologists. For his contributions to the field of urology, Dr. Wagle was honored with numerous awards, including the Northeastern Section of the AUA’s Distinguished Service Award in 1999, the Dr. G.M. Phadke Memorial Oration Award from the Annual Conference of the Urological Society of India in 2000, and the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation’s Caritas Award for community service in 2001. He will be greatly missed by all those patients, colleagues, students, and family members whose lives he touched.
