Biographies

Maurice A. Mufson is Professor of Medicine and of Preventive Medicine and Community Health of the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine of the University of Illinois and Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Education at the West Side Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Doctor Mufson received his M.D. degree from New York University and served as a House Officer in Medicine at Bellevue Hospital in New York and at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Central Society for Clinical Research, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His principal research interests are viral respiratory tract infections, mycoplasma infections and pneumococcal disease. He is the author of more than 65 articles mainly concerning these fields.

Lowell M. Zollar is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine of the University of Illinois and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Zollar received his M.D. degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. and his M.P.H. degree from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Public Health, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He served his internship and residency in Pediatrics at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His research interests are neonatal and pediatric respiratory tract infections and viral infectious diseases.
