This issue of the journal, #59.4, continues the Theme topic of "Information on the Covid-19 Pandemic". This is an unusual approach for the journal but, as we all are aware, these are, to say the least, unusual times.

There are 3 papers in this section, the first deals with apheresis using specific methods of immunoadsorption as a possible treatment of infected patients.

The paper raises interesting questions as to the potential modification of the mechanisms of the pathological effects of this new virus by suppression of the cytokine storm and will, I think, lead to exciting future studies.

Immunomodulation is also the topic of the second paper by Dr Dobri Kiprov. Clearly, interventions related to altering the disease through attempts to change the internal milieu and remove cytokines and inflammatory agents will play a major role in future therapies. Overall, immune modulation, either directed at infected patients, or ultimately, through endogenous antibody formation when the eagerly awaited vaccines are available, will be important measures in the fight against this new virus.

The third paper comes from the Italians and their national SidEM organization who have developed a position paper on the preparation of immune plasma to be used in the treatment of patients with COVID-19. This information is also being published in the Journal, Blood Transfusion, as we hope to reach the widest possible audience to share this important information. Certainly, the directions included in the document will be useful to centres, worldwide, who are attempting to set up programs for the provision of convalescent serum contacting neutralizing antibodies to treat acutely ill patients.

As we go forward, I would, again, like to encourage our readers and the members of the various medical/apheresis/transfusion communities this journal represents to send us your manuscripts, letters or notes on the COVID- 19 experience. It is important that we share information as widely and as fast as possible. Others can benefit from your experience!

Thank you. Stay well and best wishes
