Other neutralizing epitopes on hemagglutinin (HA). (A) Binding of 5HM9 to HA in the vestigial esterase region (Zhu et al. 2013a). (B) Binding of Ab6649 to HA in the “lateral patch” on the globular head domain, which is next to the receptor-binding site (RBS) and above the vestigial esterase subdomain (Raymond et al. 2018). (C) Binding of FluA-20 to the HA trimer interface (Bangaru et al. 2019). The epitope of FluA-20 is located in a conserved region in the HA protomer–protomer interface. Therefore, binding of FluA-20 to HA requires dissociation or breathing of the HA trimer. (AC) Three protomers of the HA trimer are colored in white, pink, and cyan, respectively.
