The inherent challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic created a necessity to increase the healthcare task force and engage compensatory strategies to deal with this overwhelming public health tragedy1–3. Many doctors struggled to adapt to a modification of responsibilities and the possibility of getting infected, to work in fields for which they have no training. This generated unconformity, ambiguity, and fear among the personnel4. Surgical trainees are in the middle of a chaotic time, satisfying the needs of the institution and directors with support from their partners, maintaining responsibility while coordinating administrative and clinical tasks, prioritizing patient and staff health and safety5,6. Although medical personnel face these issues every day in the pandemic, we must not forget our commitment to provide the finest medical attention and to grow as leaders through team collaboration, creativity, and innovation. We believe that learning and working under unpredictable circumstances creates stronger foundations for the next generation of surgeons, prepared to face any challenge with willingness, vision, communication, ethics, and passion7.
