American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT)

The AASPT is excited to announce the launch of our new website at www.aaspt.org! The site will keep members connected with the Sports Academy and, more important, with each other. With new bells and whistles, such as an online searchable membership directory and an enhanced events calendar, the site will help streamline programs and educational opportunities for members in a simple user interface. Additionally, the site will assist our special interest groups in sharing important information with those wanting to learn more about their unique missions.

We are also excited to share the launch of the Academy Learning Center. This new virtual educational platform helps organize our educational content while providing member access to new and free courses. In addition to our home study courses, our Special Interest Groups have started to provide new free virtual educational content that is archived on the Academy Learning Center. The educational offerings of the Academy are now more robust than ever before.

Our annual Teams Concept Conference has been migrated to the virtual space this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our professional partners are invited to join us in December for 3 days of virtual programming on the topic of female athletes. More information, including the date of the conference, will be shared on www.aaspt.org later this month and into August. We hope that AOSSM members will join us in this virtual event.

The Sports Academy is for more than just physical therapists. Interested in joining the Sports Physical Therapy Academy to take advantage of our 3 scholarly journals or the networking possibilities with our professional physical therapists? Our Partner Professional program provides membership access for medical doctors and other allied health professionals. Learn more today by visiting “Join Now” on www.aaspt.org.

American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM)

AOSSM/AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Review Course:

Because of the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have redesigned the AOSSM/AAOS Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Review Course and have turned it into a virtual program. You will have access to all materials that you would have received at the live meeting, including videos, handouts, and access to the 2020 Self-Assessment Examination. Since the information will be provided sooner, you will have the opportunity to work at your own pace as you prepare for the examination. As always, AOSSM is committed to providing outstanding education to our orthopaedic sports medicine community to support their board certification needs. Learn more at sportsmed.org.

Annual Meeting Recap:

We had 3500+ registrants from over 75 countries participate in our first-ever Virtual Annual Meeting this past July. The event began with a Game Changer session discussing “The Importance of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine in Health Care Systems” led by Claude T. Moorman III, MD. The evening continued with a session moderated by Nikhil N. Verma, MD, covering “COVID-19: Delivering Care During and After the Pandemic.” The excitement did not stop there. Thursday evening opened with a conversation led by AOSSM President, James P. Bradley, MD, who was joined by NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, and NFL Chief Medical Officer, Allen Sills, MD. Concluding the evening, we assembled an extraordinary panel of elite guests to discuss getting back to action in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the panel, Technology Innovation: Performance & Injury Prevention for Return to Play and Return to Play After COVID-19. Stay tuned for more to come at our 2021 Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN.
