Expression of Concern. CORR Insights®: Patients With Limited Health Literacy Have Similar Preferences but Different Perceptions in Shared Decision-making for Carpal Tunnel Release

Jorge G Boretto 1,
PMCID: PMC7572008  PMID: 33044312

The Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research® is issuing an expression of concern in relation to the paper, “CORR Insights®: Patients With Limited Health Literacy Have Similar Preferences but Different Perceptions in Shared Decision-making for Carpal Tunnel Release” [1], because this CORR Insights® comments on a paper that since has been retracted: “Patients With Limited Health Literacy Have Similar Preferences but Different Perceptions in Shared Decision-making for Carpal Tunnel Release” by Roh and colleagues [2].

The author of the CORR Insights® commentary mentions the original study [2] in a direct way in only two instances. First, in a sentence in the first paragraph, noting that the study highlights “two important topics that have gained considerable attention in orthopaedic research: (1) Health literacy and (2) clinical decision-making” [2]. Second, in a sentence in the third paragraph, noting that Roh and colleagues “defined the inability to complete a self-reported questionnaire as an exclusion criterion” [2]. Both instances remain factually accurate with respect to the original manuscript [2].

The Editor-in-Chief emphasizes that the CORR Insights® commentary [1] was solicited, submitted, edited, and published prior to the retraction of the source paper [2]. But because that paper has been retracted [3], the Editor-in-Chief of CORR feels it is important to issue an expression of concern so that readers of the CORR Insights® commentary are aware of the retraction. The author of the CORR Insights® commentary, Dr. Jorge G. Boretto has not erred in any way in this process.
