The Editorial Board of Toxicological Sciences has retracted this paper due to concerns over the authenticity and reliability of some data presented in this article. An accessible investigation (see https://www.uky.edu/prmarketing/statement-research-misconduct) conducted by the corresponding author’s institution, the University of Kentucky, concluded that Figure 2C was falsified due to significant departure from accepted practices of the research community and proven by a preponderance of evidence.

Following COPE guidelines for retractions, attempts were made to contact all authors but were unsuccessful with Lei Wang, Young-Ok Son, Xin Wang, John Hitron, Amit Budhraja, Jeong-Chae Lee, Qinchen Lin, Pratheeshkumar Poyil, and Zhuo Zhang. Jia Luo agrees with the retraction. Xianglin Shi disagrees with the retraction.
