Bernstein, Aaron D, Ottawa; McGill University, 1961; FRCPC; former deputy director, health programs, Citizenship and Immigration Canada; medical officer and zone director, Health Canada. Died Sept. 10, 2000, aged 63; survived by his wife, Lynda and one daughter.

Borden, Harry A., Guelph, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1932; former staff, South Waterloo and St. Mary's hospitals. Died July 27, 2000, aged 92.

Boulanger, Jean-Baptiste; Montréal (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1948; neurologie; FAPA, FICPSM, FRCPC; ancien membre du personnel enseignant de l'Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine; expert-conseil en psychiatrie des enfant à l'Hôpital Ste-Justine; superviseur de formation en analyse auprès de l'Institut canadien de psychanalyse; expert-conseil en psychiatrie médico-légale pour l'Institut Philippe Pinel; professeur de psychiatrie à l'Université de Montréal. Décédé le 30 juillet 2000, à l'âge de 77 ans.

Dunn, Benjamin H., Windsor, Ont.; Queen's University, 1952; general pathology; FRCPC; flew Typhoons and Spitfires in RCAF, WW II; former chief pathologist, Grace Hospital; staff, Department of Pathology, Grace and Windsor Western hospitals; past president, Essex County Medical Society. Died of heart failure Aug. 4, 2000, aged 76; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 5 children.

Farkas, Eric J., Mississauga, Ont.; University of Budapest (Hungary), 1959; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, Mississauga Hospital. Died July 25, 2000, aged 86; survived by his wife, Anna, and 2 children. His obituary stated: “He was a doctor for 57 years, 42 of those serving the community of Port Credit.”

Forder, William C., East York, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1967; urology; FRCSC; former head, Division of Urology, Toronto East General and Orthopedic Hospital Inc.; lecturer, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto. Died July 26, 2000, aged 61.

LaPierre, Armand P., St. Catharines, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1944; pediatrics; FRCPC; former staff, St. Catharines General and Hotel-Dieu hospitals. Died Aug. 2, 2000, aged 79.

MacDiarmid, William D., Victoria; University of Toronto, 1949; internal medicine; FACP, ABIM, FCCMG, FRCPC; former head, Department of Internal Medicine, St. Boniface Hospital; chair, Ethics Advisory Committee, attending physician, and consultant, clinical genetics, Health Sciences Centre; professor, departments of human genetics and pediatrics, University of Manitoba; professor and chair, Department of Medicine, Memorial University and University of Manitoba; founding member and fellow, Canadian College of Medical Genetics; member, CMA Ethics Committee. Died Apr. 2, 2000, aged 73; survived by his wife, Bette, and children Dr. Margaret, Dr. Andrew, John and Donald. His daughter stated: “His warm smile, enduring sense of humour, story-reading ability, love of travel and music, and his eternal optimism all combined to make him a wonderful father, grandfather and husband.”

Marits, Maldus, West Vancouver; University of British Columbia, 1958; general practitioner, Vancouver and the North Shore, from 1959 until retirement in 1991. Died July 28, 2000, aged 76; survived by his wife, Katrin, and 3 sons. His obituary stated: “He dedicated his life to seeing Estonia, his country of birth, regain its independence. The dream was realized in 1991.”

Oliver, John A., Montreal; McGill University, 1956; FACS, FRCSC; urology; former senior urologist, Royal Victoria and Montreal General hospitals; consultant, Queen Elizabeth and Barrie Memorial (Ormstown) hospitals; associate professor, Department of Surgery and Urology, McGill University; past president, Canadian Urological Association and Association of Urologists of Quebec. Died Sept. 25, 2000, aged 72; survived by his partner, Jane, and 4 children. After retirement, he took great pleasure in translating books into Braille and volunteering with the Montreal Association of the Blind.

Perrigard, Gordon E., Montreal, Que.; McGill University, 1941; general surgery; AICS, FRCSC; former visiting staff, Jean-Talon Hospital; consultant, General Insurance and Canada Life. Died July 5, 2000, aged 84.

Rafla, Hany A., Guelph, Ont.; McMaster University, 1986; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, Guelph General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital and Home. Died July 25, 2000, aged 39; survived by his wife.

Thomson, Harry S., Newmarket, Ont.; McGill University, 1952; plastic surgery; FRCSC; navy, WW II; former staff, Alberta Children's Provincial General, Grace and Rockyview General hospitals; consulting staff, Holy Cross Hospital. Died July 22, 2000, aged 77; survived by his wife, Muriel, 4 children and 3 stepchildren. He taught modern restorative techniques in Tunisia, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and China.

Znamirowski, Roman, Nepean, Ont.; National University of Ireland 1953; DCH; former head, Laboratory Section, Division of Biologics, Laboratory Centre for Disease Control, Department of National Health and Welfare. Died July 23, 2000, aged 75; survived by his wife, Dr. Maria.
