PMCID: PMC8087513

Author Information

An event is serious (based on the ICH definition) when the patient outcome is:

  • * death

  • * life-threatening

  • * hospitalisation

  • * disability

  • * congenital anomaly

  • * other medically important event

In a case series, a man in his 30's [exact age at the time of reaction onset not stated] developed gastrointestinal bleeding and pancreatitis during treatment with propofol.

The man, who had systolic heart failure, presented to the emergency department with fever, dyspnoea, and hypoxaemia. He was admitted to the cardiovascular ICU. On admission, he was found to be positive for a COVID-19 test. He was started on dialysis for acute kidney injury. Subsequently, he developed gastrointestinal bleeding and pancreatitis secondary to propofol [dosage, route, indication, duration of treatment to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. Later, he experienced rapidly worsening hypoxaemia and shock, requiring ventilatory and vasopressor support. Eventually, he died [immediate cause of death not stated].
