On behalf of the Leadership of the American Society of Hypertension, Inc. (ASH), I wish to remind you to participate in the 21st ASH Annual Scientific Meeting, the largest US scientific forum for hypertension and cardiovascular health, to be held at the Hilton New York, Tuesday, May 16 through Saturday, May 20, 2006. “Characterizing the Hypertension Phenotypes,” the theme of the 2006 meeting, is reflected in a scientific program designed to appeal to a broad group of professionals, including physicians, basic scientists, physician assistants, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and others interested in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health.
The 2006 ASH Annual Scientific Program promises to be an extraordinary educational event addressing many exciting topics, including hypertension in special populations, new diagnostic procedures and treatment strategies for hypertension, breaking news from recent advances in basic and clinical hypertension research, and results from new and ongoing clinical trials. New components added for the 2005 Annual Scientific Meeting will be continued and enhanced at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting, including the Meet the Expert Series and moderated poster sessions. Some of the scientific sessions to be presented include:
-
1
• The Forces Shaping the Hypertension Phenotypes
-
2
• Hypertension and Altered Vascular Stiffness: Is This the Key to Blood Pressure Increases?
-
3
• The Kidney as a Culprit in Hypertension
-
4
• A New Look at Blood Pressure Measurement
-
5
• Advances in Risk Factor Modulation
-
6
• Vascular Consequences of Sleep‐Disordered Breathing
At the beginning of the 2006 ASH Annual Scientific Meeting on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, three special symposia have been scheduled, focusing on treatment in different ethnic populations:
-
1
• Hypertension in the Asian Population
-
2
• Hypertension in the Hispanic Population
-
3
• Hypertension in the African‐American Population, which will be jointly sponsored with the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB).
These special symposia, originally introduced in 2005 as a pilot project, have been rescheduled based on the enthusiasm and positive feedback from both the faculty members and the participants.
Also beginning on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, the Society will host 16 industry‐supported satellite symposia at the ASH 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting, all of which will be accredited by the ASH Committee on Continuing Medical Education (CME) for category 1 credit. Satellite symposia will be scheduled in the morning and evening every day of the meeting, before or immediately following the scientific sessions.
In addition to the scientific sessions, special symposia, and satellite symposia, the Society provides the opportunity for pharmaceutical companies, device manufacturers, and non‐profit organizations to host exhibits at the Annual Scientific Meeting regarding their products and services for registrant review. This year, the Society's two‐level exhibition hall will offer many new features, including a new design and configuration of the exhibit space to allow island booths, expanded refreshment breaks, and the Cyber Center.
