It is with great humility and anticipation that I offer this edition of Seminars in Plastic Surgery . Several years ago, a team of neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons embarked on a mission to improve fusion rates in spines that had undergone instrumentation and subsequent failure. The work that was accomplished then has been constantly shaped and improved and is captured in the new concepts and techniques presented in this volume of Seminars . Currently implemented around the world and across the country, spinoplastic procedures using vascularized bone grafts are transforming patients' lives and providing new tools to reconstructive surgeons.

It is our sincere desire that the articles contained within this edition help you clearly understand theory, technique, and outcome to apply these ideas to your patients' care paradigm to help lessen their suffering from debilitating spinal issues especially in those areas requiring spinal fusion.

We believe the vascularized bone graft concept not only augments the reconstructive ladder, particularly in areas of bone healing, but also can and will be applied thought the body in countless ways. We hope you are the surgeon inspired to invent and make operational new procedures beyond these concepts and help us co-create the future of bone fusion for reconstructive surgeons.
