The Editor of Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease is officially retracting the article entitled, “Serum amyloid A protein in the course of infectious mononucleosis” by Popcheva et al, Ther Adv Infect Dis, 2019 Jan 17;6:2049936118811208. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1177/2049936118811208
Following an internal investigation, it was discovered that the authors did not obtain formal ethical approval to conduct the study. The authors have explained that while they discussed the work with the ethical committee, who raised no concerns with the conduct of the study, official approval was not obtained. This is because the study was already underway at the time the authors sought approval from the ethical committee. This is a clear violation of ethical standards for studies containing human participants, and therefore the Journal officially retracts the paper.
Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease, its Editors, and its Publisher are committed to upholding high ethical standards and will not tolerate violations in research or publication ethics.
