Peer review commentary
The resource is CDC Expert Commentary published on the Medscape Internal Medicine website in November 2013 but is still very relevant.
The short commentary gives three main principles for judicious antibiotic use to improve the quality of care for children with acute otitis media (AOM), and to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. The first principle deals with the diagnosis of AOM and the likelihood of bacterial infection, the second weighs the benefits and harms of antibiotic prescribing and the third principle concerns the implementation of judicious antibiotic prescribing strategies.
The resource is very short, clear and offers straightforward guidance on the management of AOM in children.
