Dear Bioelectricity Community,
We are delighted to be starting volume 3 of Bioelectricity with an excellent set of contents: two perspectives, one full review, and four original research articles plus the usual “bioelectricity buzz,” all together covering three continents!
We are also delighted to be able to say that, as judged by criteria such as the number of downloaded articles, the journal has been performing at twice the rate expected from its rather short time in existence. Moreover, our articles are now listed in PubMed Central! The next step is to get it admitted to PubMed, for which we are confident.
June will be a “special issue” dedicated to bacterial electrophysiology to be guest-edited by Arthur Prindle and Munehiro Asally. The fact that bacteria use electrical signals as a part of their physiology is truly novel and exciting with potential industrial applications.
If anyone would like to organize a special issue on any viable subtopic of bioelectricity, please contact us. In particular, we would like to cultivate other exciting areas such as bioelectricity of plants and cells of the immune system and stem cells, as well as use of bioelectricity in bioengineering (including biosensors) and medicine (including surgery).
This year, we shall also be revamping our editorial board. Drs. Asally and Prindle are already editorial board members as are Drs. Yuri Korchev, Mary Maleckar, and Ali Mobasheri. The journal relies critically on an efficiently working board and keeping up our reviewing time consistently to <4 weeks is due, in part, to the diligence of key members of the editorial board.
Of course, 2020 was a terrible year with the impact of the Covid-19 virus and its mutants felt in all walks of life. Nevertheless, the scientific community, including Bioelectricity, persevered and we have kept up our submissions while making a special effort to cater for the special needs of our contributors. In the event, most of the issues have been bigger than the stipulation of the publishers, and we are grateful to them for allowing us this flexibility.
Although we are already some 3 months into the new year, we would like to wish you a wonderful 2021, full of health, harmony, and success.
