RETRACTION
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology (JCM) are hereby retracting this article:
Pietrucha-Dilanchian P, Chan JC, Castellano-Sanchez A, Hirzel A, Laowansiri P, Tuda C, Visvesvara GS, Qvarnstrom Y, Ratzan KR. 2012. Balamuthia mandrillaris and Acanthamoeba amebic encephalitis with neurotoxoplasmosis coinfection in a patient with advanced HIV infection. J Clin Microbiol 50:1128–1131. https://doi.org/10.1128/JCM.06252-11.
In response to questions raised by concerned readers about the integrity of some of the data in this paper, ASM confirmed evidence of image duplication (though resized and rotated) of panels D and E in Figure 2. ASM and JCM raised the concerns with the authors but were unable to reach a satisfactory resolution. Because the integrity of the data presented was compromised, this publication is retracted in its entirety. We apologize to the readers of JCM and regret any inconvenience that this causes.
