As we continue to anticipate the return to normalcy post pandemic, we have all had ample time to contemplate our lives and careers. The pandemic has provided us the opportunity to reset, and to reevaluate our goals, both personal and professional. Many of us have set minor goals: lose a bit of weight, spend more time with family, don’t undervalue friends, travel more when we can, etc. Others have set professional goals: work on that promotion, publish more, get an additional degree, and so forth. We at the CMTR, have also taken the opportunity to reflect on the path we have traveled the last 2 years; both the changes we have implemented and their impact on our journal’s success. In so doing, the editorial board has identified 2 major areas of focus for the coming years. It is our belief that by sharing our goals with you, we can work together as a community to achieve them.
The first and most pressing goal is to increase the submission of original manuscripts to the journal. Our Craniomaxillofacial surgery community has leading experts and a wealth of knowledge and skill that spans the disciplines. In the coming years, we would like to encourage you, our colleagues, to submit your original research work to the journal. As the editorial board, we will also actively work to identify new research opportunities. We plan to attend major CMF meetings, particularly the abstract sessions, to identify the newest advances to generate leads for submissions to CMTR.
Along with original manuscripts, CMTR will publish 1 to 2 review articles per issue focusing on a specific topic of importance to our readers. Lastly, you may have already noticed, we have diminished the publication of case reports and technical notes, limiting them to the truly rare cases and innovative new techniques. It is our hope that the result of these efforts will culminate in obtaining an impact factor for CMTR.
Like you, we will be leaning on our friends and colleagues for support and accountability in order to achieve our goals. We at the Editorial Board feel that the future for CMTR is bright and that the goals that we have set forth will be achievable in a short period of time. As the world prepares to reopen, we are committed to working on behalf of our AOCMF community to bring our goals to realization.
