Author Correction: Reward and punisher experience alter rodent decision-making in a judgement bias task

The original version of this Article contained several errors as a result of an incorrect method of model comparison.

In the Methods, Data analysis section, subheading ‘Model comparison’,

"We compared models according to their Bayes Information Criterion (BIC) scores:

BIC=Nplog|D|-2i=1Mj=1NilogP(D|hji).

where Np is the number of fitted parameters and |D| is the number of data points."

now reads:

"We compared models according to their integrated Bayes Information Criterion (iBIC) scores:

iBIC=Nplog|D|-2logP(D|ΣML,mML,νML)

where Np is the number of fitted parameters, |D| is the number of data points, and logP(D|ΣML,mML,νML) is approximated by sampling hji from the empirical prior distribution, calculating P(Dji|hji) for each sample, averaging these values to approximate P(Dji|ΣML,mML,νML) and then taking the sum of the logarithms of these estimated probabilities across sessions and individuals."

In the Results section, subheading ‘Model-dependent analysis’,

"When penalizing model complexity (using a form of Bayesian information criterion; BIC), the most parsimonious model included all six of these parameters (δ, Cp/r, λ, and σ, ω, and β; Fig. 1, Table 2). Across all conditions and subjects, the log-transformed parameter estimates of Cp/r were significantly less than zero (mean ± SE: − 1.103 ± 0.023, p < 0.001) while the estimates of δ were also significantly less than zero (mean ± SE: − 0.100 ± 0.045, p = 0.026)"

Yet, the estimates from the full model revealed that, across all conditions and subjects, both the log-transformed parameter estimates of Cp/r (mean ± SE: − 1.103 ± 0.023, p < 0.001) and the estimates of δ (mean ± SE: − 0.100 ± 0.045, p = 0.026) were significantly less than zero. Hence, we opted to use the full model for further analysis to gain a more complete picture of the potential decision processes contributing to treatment differences in judgement bias."

As a result of the changes, the values listed in Table 2 have now been calculated using the integrated Bayesian information criterion ∆iBIC rather than ∆BIC.

Finally, as a result of a coding error, Figure 1 was incorrect. The graphics showing the ‘Generated’ data have now been revised.
