Announcement
The American Society of Hypertension, Inc (ASH) has developed and implemented a new mechanism within ASH to provide professional recognition for ASH members. While the Hypertension Specialist Program recognizes excellence in hypertension treatment knowledge and practice, the ASH Fellowship Program will acknowledge the accomplishment of ASH members who have distinguished themselves through excellence in their professional scientific and clinical achievements, scholarship, and significant contributions to the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health.
The society will annually confer the ASH fellow designation on qualified applicants reviewed by the membership committee and approved by the board of directors. The ASH fellow designation will be processed through 2 two‐tracks: (1) clinical pathway and (2) investigator pathway.
The ASH fellow designation will provide the following privileges:
-
•
ASH fellows are entitled to add FASH (Fellow of the American Society of Hypertension) to their professional credentials.
-
•
ASH fellows are presented with a certificate of achievement and an ASH fellow pin attesting their status as ASH fellows during the fellow convocation ceremony at ASH Annual Scientific Meetings.
-
•
ASH fellows are recognized at the beginning of each year in a published roster of new ASH fellows in The Journal of Clinical of Hypertension (JCH) and the Journal of the American Society of Hypertension (JASH), as well as on the society Web site.
Current ASH members who wish to be considered for the ASH fellow designation are expected to have attended at least 2 of the last 4 ASH Annual Scientific Meetings and are eligible to submit an application to become an ASH fellow. The application process—either the investigator pathway or the clinical pathway—involves submission of information regarding professional, scientific, and clinical achievements; scholarship; significant contributions to the field of hypertension and cardiovascular health; and recommendations from two current ASH fellows.
To maintain one’s status as an ASH fellow, one will need to be a current, active ASH member.

In early 2010, the membership committee will initiate the application process for ASH fellow designation (FASH) so that charter ASH fellows can be recognized in New York at the 25th anniversary scientific meeting of the Society.
The designation will be an opportunity for ASH members to have their accomplishments in investigative research and clinical practice formally recognized.
For 2010, applicants may submit letters of recommendation from ASH designated specialists in clinical hypertension in lieu of ASH fellows.
