Yeast prion replication cycle [29]. Prion fibrils are multiplied through the action of Hsp104, which randomly extracts protomers from amyloid, thus fragmenting it into smaller pieces. The size of amyloid fragments is restored through growth by accretion of soluble Sup35 molecules. The action of Hsp104 is preceded by, and depends on, binding of the Sis1 and Ssa chaperones [66], which are not shown here.
