EDITORIAL
I was fortunate to work with Jack Kenney when I started as an editor at the Journal of Bacteriology (JB) in 2007, until his retirement in 2010. Jack Kenney was an outstanding production editor, and I always enjoyed chatting with him at our annual editor meetings. I also worked with him for the first special meeting issue I did as an editor. He sent me a paper copy of that issue (April 2008) with a hand-written note that I treasure. He died shortly after his retirement. The journal editors have been selecting a recipient of the Jack Kenney Award for Outstanding Service since 2009.
I am pleased to announce that Jörg Stülke is the 2021 recipient of this award. Since 2003 he has served as a professor of general microbiology and head of the Department of General Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Göttingen. His work focuses on the study of the metabolism of the pathogen Mycoplasma pneumoniae and the broadly studied model organism Bacillus subtilis. His work is in the best tradition of JB—studying fundamental physiological processes of important microbes.
Jörg Stülke is an enthusiastic reviewer for JB and a member of the Editorial Board. Over the past year, he reviewed 11 manuscripts for JB with an average review time of 12 days—he did not decline a single review.
The editors are pleased to recognize Jörg Stülke’s outstanding service to JB and society publishing.
