In the above-named article by Ballenger KL, Tugarinov N, Talvacchio SK, Knue MM, Dang Do AN, Ahlman MA, Reynolds JC, Yanovski JA, and Marini JC (J Clin Endo Metab. 2021; doi: 10.1210/clinem/dgab679), errors resulting from the incorrect assignment of some patients’ mutations appeared in the Accepted Manuscript originally posted in Advance Articles.
After acceptance of the manuscript but before page proofs, the authors noted during clinical care that one patient’s mutation was assigned to the incorrect collagen chain. Further comparison of the full patient mutation list, which had been compiled from clinical charts, to their correct master list of mutations revealed that the collagen gene assignment of 3 of 30 mutations causing OI in their patients were incorrect.
The 3 mutations requiring re-assignment were all within the collagen structural group, moving two patients from COL1A1 to COL1A2, and one patient from COL1A2 non-glycine to COL1A1 non-glycine. All data associated with each of these 3 patients were correct and correctly associated with that individual. None of the patients came from the group in which significant differences in REE or Means Percent Fat Mass vs control were reported.
A full recalculation of all the analyses is now presented in the final publication. None of the analyses had a change in significance. Several data points in the Abstract, the second paragraph of Results, Figure legends, Table 2 and Supplemental Table 2 had slightly modified averages. Also, the non-Gly COL1A2 group became too small (1 individual) for a separate analysis and was combined with the non-Gly COL1A1 group. Of note, the covariate-adjusted REE p value in the Abstract for the comparison of non-COL vs Control groups remains significant. Several Figure panels in the final publication (Figure 2A and B, Figure 3A and B, and 4A) were also re-plotted to represent the corrected group assignments, although there is no change in significance. Importantly, the overall results and conclusions remain unchanged.
The corrections have been incorporated in the final version of the manuscript online.
