In a prospective study involving 25 patients, who were SARS-CoV-2 positive and underwent emergency and urgent surgical procedures at a hospital in Italy, a 57-year-old man was described, who experienced a relapse of COVID-19 during chemotherapy with temozolomide for anaplastic astrocytoma.
The man, who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection and had been diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, underwent surgical drainage of the cystic component, followed by craniotomy for surgical resection. During hospital stay, he tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. Thereafter, he started receiving chemotherapy with temozolomide [route and dosage not stated]. However, he subsequently experienced a relapse of COVID-19, which was attributed to temozolomide [time to reaction onset not stated].
Therefore, the man discontinued temozolomide after 3 days. He was eventually discharged in a stable condition.
