American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM)

Multiple Societies Provide Support for New Consensus Statement on Musculoskeletal and Sports Ultrasound Terminology

Leading organizations representing sports medicine, radiology, orthopaedics, anesthesia and pain medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation have provided support for a position statement on the Recommended Musculoskeletal and Sports Ultrasound Terminology.

This multidisciplinary expert consensus statement addresses multiple areas of variability in diagnostic ultrasound imaging and ultrasound-guided procedures related to musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

The following societies have endorsed this statement: American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine, European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology, Society of Interventional Radiology, and Society of Skeletal Radiology. The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has affirmed the value of the statement.

The document has been copublished in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Educational Resources Freely Available on AMSSM’s YouTube Channel

AMSSM’s YouTube channel features 2 recurring educational video series that continue to provide freely available content for anyone interested: the National Fellow Online Lecture Series and the Sports Ultrasound Case Presentation Series.

The Fellow Online Lecture Series provides educational lectures and panel discussions with experienced AMSSM members, and at times invited guest experts, and also assists in CAQ Exam preparation. Meanwhile, the Sports Ultrasound Case Presentation Series takes place every other week with a presentation for a given body part or presenting complaint. There are currently more than 40 of these talks available for playback.

Tenth Annual Comprehensive Sports Medicine Update and Board Review

The 10th Annual Comprehensive Sports Medicine Update and Board Review Course will be held from June 22 to 25, in Minneapolis, MN, and via Livestream. This one-of-a-kind, award-winning course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of all subjects contained in the sports medicine board examination. The course is jointly provided by the AMSSM, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Mayo Clinic, and course faculty includes internationally recognized experts in the field of sports medicine.
