Dimensions Of OCD, Feelings of Shame, Guilt and Emotion Regulation in Persons With OCD

Abstract

Background:

Shame is a painful emotion which is experienced when a person judges oneself negatively and guilt is associated with negative judgment of one’s behavior. The clinical experience and literature suggests that persons with OCD experience both these emotions. Shame in particular is found to be as a barrier in treatment.

Aim:

The present study aims at studying feelings of shame and guilt and their emotion regulation in relation with dimensions of OCD. Material and Method: 30 persons with OCD will be taken from OPD of Institute of Mental Health and Hospital, Agra. Following tools will be individually administered on the participants. (a) State Shame and Guilt Scale (Marschall, Saftner, & Tangney, 1994) (b) Dimensional Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Abramowitz et al. 2010) (c) Emotion Regulation Questionnare (Gross & John, 2003).

Results:

The data will be subjected to correlational analysis and the results will be shared.
