Highlights from the 2022 AMSSM Annual Meeting in Austin, TX
For the first time in 3 years, AMSSM members gathered together for an inperson annual meeting from April 8 to 13 in Austin, TX, with the theme of Welcome Home: It’s Better Live. More than 2200 members participated in person, along with more than 500 virtual attendees, during AMSSM’s first hybrid annual meeting.
Kyle Goerl, MD, served as Program Chair for the meeting, and Mark Stovak, MD, FAMSSM, was installed as President of AMSSM during the State of the Union. Anyone who would like to watch Dr Stovak’s Incoming presidential message can find it at AMSSM’s YouTube channel.
During the meeting, Past President John DiFiori, MD, FAMSSM, received the 2022 Founders’ Award, which is bestowed when AMSSM leadership determines that a member exemplifies the best that a sports medicine physician can be and do. Longtime AMSSM Foundation Board member Marjorie Albohm, MS, AT-Ret, was also presented with the AMSSM President’s Award, the highest honor the organization can bestow on a nonAMSSM member.
Past President Jonathan Drezner, MD, FAMSSM, provided this year’s Hough Memorial Lecture on Shared Decision Making in High Risk Cardiac Athletes, and USADA CEO Travis Tygart served as the Presidential Keynote Speaker during a session on Doping in Sport.
