Addendum to: “Statement on Storage and Use of Genetic Materials.” John A. Phillips III, MD, Maimon Cohen, MD, Lynn D. Fleisher, PhD, JD, Ann C. M. Smith, MA, and Ellen Wright Clayton, MD, JD; American College of Medical Genetics Storage of Genetics Materials Committee. American Journal of Human Genetics 57:1499-1500; published December 1995.

This document was retired by the ACMG Board of Directors as of 28 February 2022 with the following addendum:

The ACMG Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee conducted a critical review of this statement and recommended that it be retired as written on 3 February 2022.

It was the belief of the Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee members that a separate document addressing the storage and use of genetic materials was no longer required. The salient details are now incorporated in the 2021 edition of the ACMG Technical Standards for Clinical Genetics Laboratories, Section C: General Policies, Sections C2-C5: Specimens and Intake Information, Patient Information and Sample Collection, Specimen Processing and Storage, and Patient Records.1
