In the originally published version of this manuscript, section ‘PheS_A294G suppression assay’ contained an error in the following sentence:

Serial 10-fold dilutions of cells (5μl) were spotted on YEG-agar plates and grown on either selective (1.6 mM p-Cl-Phe, 0.2% arabinose and 0.1 mM IPTG) or nonselective (no additives) YEG-agar plates at 37°C overnight.

‘1.6 mM p-Cl-Phe’ should have been given as ‘16 mM p-Cl-Phe’, and so the correct sentence should be:

Serial 10-fold dilutions of cells (5μl) were spotted on YEG-agar plates and grown on either selective (16 mM p-Cl-Phe, 0.2% arabinose and 0.1 mM IPTG) or nonselective (no additives) YEG-agar plates at 37°C overnight.

These details have been corrected only in this correction notice to preserve the published version of record.
