The Permanente Journal (TPJ) is pleased to announce a forthcoming special section titled “Innovations in Trauma-Informed Health Care,” which will cover new and exciting approaches to trauma-informed education and clinical care.
A trauma-informed approach to care acknowledges that health care organizations and care teams need to have a complete picture of a patient’s life to provide effective health care services. Adopting trauma-informed practices can potentially improve patient engagement, treatment adherence, and health outcomes as well as increase compassion and satisfaction and decrease provider and staff burnout.
Trauma-informed care seeks to a :
Realize the widespread impact of trauma and understand paths for recovery
Recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in patients, families, and staff
Integrate knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices
Actively avoid retraumatization.
The following manuscript types will be considered: Original Research, Brief Report, Review, or Commentary (max of 1). Topics should fit into one or more of the TPJ emphasis areas identified below:
Care delivery and delivery science
Health care disparities and equity, inclusion, and diversity in medicine
Applied research
Interdisciplinary clinical medicine spanning all discipline areas.
The following are examples of relevant topics for this special section:
Trauma-informed health education for trainees and faculty
Innovative trauma-informed practices and delivery of clinical patient health care
The impact of trauma on the healthcare workforce and ways in which toxic stress impacts trainees and healthcare workers
Developing a new vision for applying trauma-informed principles in the healthcare environment.
Please send a presubmission inquiry by December 31, 2022, to the co-editors. Presubmission inquiries should include a brief description of your proposed manuscript topic and type of article. The TPJ guest editors will evaluate proposals and advise authors of suitability prior to official submission.
Authors whose proposals are considered to be a fit for the special section should submit a fully developed manuscript to TPJ. The final deadline for full manuscript submission is May 31, 2023. Please specify in your cover letter that the submission is intended for the special section on trauma-informed health care. Accepted articles will be published online on an ongoing basis.
All manuscripts submitted as part of the special section should be prepared following TPJ’s latest author guidelines, available at: https://www.thepermanentejournal.org/journal/tpj/author/guidelines.
