They express homing chemokine receptors CCR2, CCR5, CCR6, CCR9 and CXCR6. Their transcription factors include Tbet, RORgt and PLZF and the multidrug resistance transporter ABCB1. MAIT cells possess receptors to cytokines interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interleukin-18 (IL-18). Upon activation, MAIT cells release the proinflammatory cytokines TNF⍺, INFγ, Interleukin-17 (IL-17) and de-granulate Granzymes and Perforin.

MAIT cells possess receptors to the cytokines interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interleukin-18 (IL-18). The MAIT cell TCR Valpha7.2+ is restricted by microbial derived vitamin B metabolites, notably Riboflavin, which act as ligands presented by MR1, a MHC Class 1-related molecule. Upon activation, MAIT cells release the proinflammatory cytokines TNF⍺, INFγ, Interleukin-17 (IL-17) and de-granulate Granzymes and Perforin.
