Died Oct. 21, 2001, aged 88; survived by his wife, Catherine, and 2 children. His son, Dr. Michael Pollak, commented: “He was a gentle man of wisdom and integrity who overcame adversities in his life with quiet strength and determination, and inspired others by example.”

Wankling, William J., Kelowna, BC; University of Manitoba, 1961; general surgery; FRCSC; former chief of staff, chief of surgery, chair, medical advisory committee and member of hospital board, Kelowna General Hospital. Died Sept. 8, 2001, aged 64; survived by his wife, Wilma and 4 children. “He was instrumental in setting up the gastrointestinal laboratory at KGH and he brought major thoracic surgery to the hospital. He was part owner and president of the Kelowna Packers Junior Hockey team.”
