A better fit (dashed line) is obtained with i(t) = imax(1 exp(t/td)), where Nef is assumed to internalize not all but a maximum percentage imax of the surface CD4 receptors. That Nef alone is insufficient to completely down-modulate surface CD4 receptors has been demonstrated (2). The best-fit parameters yield imax = 34% and td = 5.7 min.
