Fig. 6. Real-time RT-PCR analysis of the HERV-FRD env gene expression in cytotrophoblast (CT) and fibroblast (F) primary cells isolated from human placenta, in whole placenta, and in the indicated tumor cell lines. Transcript levels are expressed in arbitrary units, taking as unity the fibroblast transcript level mean value. High-level expression is observed in placenta and isolated cytotrophoblast cells (as well as in the BeWo malignant trophoblastic cell line) but not in the placenta-derived fibroblasts. Low-level expression is observed in the T47D breast carcinoma cell line [in which HERV-FRD was first described (1)], and almost no expression in the NT2/D1 teratocarcinoma cell line.
