Description of Pueblo Bonito rooms in which cobs were found.

Samples H-242 (244A and 244B) and H 254 (258A, 258B, and 258C) were excavated from the floor of room 3, an underground room filled with sand above the floor (1). This room, in the north-central and oldest section of Pueblo Bonito, has been dated to the A.D. 860s (2).

Sample H-7673 was excavated from the floor of room 92 (1) that was built during stage 1of Pueblo Bonito construction (3), possibly in the A.D. 900s. Because the room is in front of the original arc of rooms, the cob could date in the late 900s or possibly the early 1000s.

Sample H-7494 was excavated from debris on the floor of room 85, which has been described as a storage room (1). Room 85, in the north-central portion of Pueblo Bonito, was constructed in the 800s (2).

Sample H-10648 came from room 170, located on the southeast side of Pueblo Bonito (1). This room was built during stage VIA construction, which dates from A.D. 1075 to 1085 (3). The room was built between A.D. 1077 and 1082 (2). During this phase of Pueblo Bonito construction, more than 100 rooms were added (2, 3).
