Table 1. Derivation of the sequences of the mouse Frem and Fras genes and their homologues in other species

Sequence

Origin

Mm.Fras1

SWALL:Q80T14

Hs.FRAS1

ESTs and Genewise (1) prediction using Mm.Fras1

Lv.Q9GV77 (Frem2)

SWALL:Q9GV77

Ce.Q81G72

SWALL:Q81G72

Dm.Q9VJ82

SWALL:Q9VJ82

Ag.Q7Q4H3

SWALL:Q7Q4H3

Mm.Frem1

ESTs, multiple mRNAs, Genewise prediction, and RT-PCR

Hs.FREM1

ESTs and Genewise using Mm.Frem1.

Mm.Cspg4

SWALL:Q8VHY0

Hs.CSPG4

SWALL:AAQ62842

Fr.Frem2

Genewise prediction from Scaffold_98 using Mm.Frem2, ORF extended to N-terminal start site. There are at least two more Frem2-like genes in Fugu, but they are fragmented in the current assembly.

Fr.Frem1

Genewise prediction from Scaffold_2037 using Mm.Frem1, ORF extended to the N-terminal start site.

Mm.Cspg5

Genewise prediction using Fr.Cspg5.

Fr.Cspg5

Cross-species conservation and Genewise using Mm.Cspg4 on Scaffold_47.

Hs.CSPG5

Appears to have degraded into a pseudogene, multiple in-frame stops.

Hs.FREM2

Refseq:XP_292193 but N-terminally trimmed to more likely start site (conserved signal peptide).

Mm.Frem2

ESTs and Genewise with Hs.FREM2.

Hs.FREM3

Refseq:XP_094074 but with N-terminally trimmed.

Mm.Frem3

ESTs and Genewise with Hs.FREM3.

Fr.Fras1

Genewise using Mm.Fras1 as the model on Scaffold_587

The sequences of Frem proteins and their relatives were derived from a number of sources as noted above. The GenBank accession number for Mm Frem1 is AJ616838. The genomic assemblies used for Genewise prediction were human NCBI33, mouse NCBI32, and Fugu Second Assembly (17th May 2002).
