Fig. 7. Targeting construct for conditional deletion of a target gene. The construct is used to replace the WT target gene by double-crossover recombination. The resulting recombinant clone can then be crossed with a deleter clone, so that the SSR event deletes the target gene and the selectable marker and induces expression of the GFP gene. The first FRT site, located upstream from the start codon of the target gene, should not impair expression of this gene before its excision.
